At 110 reviews, Steve hardly needs another but this was such an unexpectedly awesome experience it only seemed fair to leave one. Steve’s video reviews saved a lot of time - I was able to get a good overview of the car before deciding to visit. The ability to book a test drive online made things easy and saved phone calls. We arrived late but Steve was friendly and after showing us the car allowed us to take it for a test drive by ourselves after checking out driving license. This was a real surprise and he didn’t even specify how long we needed to be. When we took the car out, a warning light came on. We googled what this could be - sensor issue that’s very common - and drove back to Steve, who (without Google) gave the same explanation but also immediately summoned a mechanic from down the road to use the ODB to check what was wrong. The mechanic said the same as Steve, who then went on to explain further in layman’s terms what had happened (much appreciated).He said he’d get it fixed and we could come back for another test drive if we wanted. A couple of days later we returned and once again were allowed an unaccompanied test drive. This is such a refreshing change as we could openly discuss the car without being overheard. We were so confident with Steve and that he would honour the warranty that we decided to buy the car there and then. It’s worth pointing out that at no point did Steve patronise us or talk down to us. He did not direct his conversation to my male partner alone either, which was nice,We have now driven the car over 600 miles and it’s not missed a beat. It wasn’t his most expensive car but neither was it his cheapest - but he treated bus with more dignity than main dealers have in the past. In a world full of sneaky second hard car dealers, Steve stands out as a friendly, honest guy selling cars at market prices. He didn’t try and push an extended warranty Angmering my only drawback was that I couldn’t pat direct by credit card as sites like MoneySavingExpert suggest - but this is due to card handling fees which I know are expensive. I don’t believe the car we purchased will go wrong but I feel confident that if it is within warranty period, Steve will fix it. I’d like to thank Steve for making what could be a scary experience easy and safe I say it, enjoyable. We’re very pleased with our “new to us” car and would return again in the future.

Purchased a car from Cambs Cars in October and I specifically purchased from a trader rather than private for the added peace of mind and warranty with a used car. I was very pleased with the car up until a fault developed within 2000 miles and 3 months. I contacted Cambs Cars and found Stephen quite sarcastic with his comment 'you're lucky, you've just scraped in within the warranty' to which I replied that I didn't feel very lucky that the car had a fault in the first 3 months. Due to living over an hour away, I had the AA attend and then took it to a local garage. Cambs Cars offer a back to base warranty only as they have their own mechanics and won't pay another garage's labour costs (fair enough). They were due to be shutting the business down for 3 weeks to go on holiday within the following 2 days of the fault occurring. Therefore, to make things easier for everyone, I proposed that they pay the cost of the part and we pay the labour and get the repair done locally to us. Cambs Cars then said the repair needed was not covered under the warranty after all and I should have bought the extended warranty! Thank goodness I didn't take the car back to base! The part wasn't a huge amount of money and it would have just shown goodwill on Cambs Cars side had they paid for it. Instead they have wriggled out of responsibility, nit-picking on technicalities, because actually, their warranty is not worth the paper its written on which is probably why they try to heavily sell the extended warranty for an extra £300.00 thus relinquishing them from any liability. I ended up paying for the repair needed and whilst the garage were doing it, they discovered another fault which I have also had to pay out for. In less than 3 months, there have been £600.00 of repairs. If Cambs Cars were any sort of reputable garage with any conscience, you would think they would want their customers to have at least 3 months hassle free motoring. That's the point of a trader and a warranty. A small gesture of goodwill and customer service from Cambs Cars would have gone a long way but sadly, their after care is lacking.

You did purchase a lovely Astra that is 12 years old and had 82,000 miles on the clock. We offer a Free a back to base Engine & Gearbox Warranty for 3 months or 2,500 miles that is explained and on the invoice of sale. Every customer is offered the extended warranty from £299 for 1 year, this then is a 8,000 component / wear & tear, any garage warranty / £1,000 per claim, unlimited claims to the value of the car. You refused the extended warranty, and the fault at 3 months you had with the car was as you say a very minor cost for the part but was not Engine or Gearbox so it was not a covered component, as per all other garages including Main Dealer garages have the same terms and conditions. Hopefully going forward you have no further issues and continue to enjoy the Astra. Kind Regards Stephen Cambs Cars

After booking a '1 hour test drive' via their website, I was told on arrival that all test drives were required to follow a pre-defined, five-minute route! Although I was certainly not expecting to drive the car for as long as an hour and understood that the slot would include some time examining the car and talking to the dealer as well, five minutes really seems unusually short. This restriction was supposedly for insurance and fuel cost reasons, and yet even offering to buy my own temporary insurance, contribute to fuel costs and/or come back another time did not make any difference. Given all the positive reviews, I have to wonder whether they were hiding something about this specific car (which is no longer being advertised), but if this actually is their policy in general, I feel they should be upfront about it to avoid wasting customers' time.

Good afternoon, It's frustrating to receive a 1 star review from someone that did not even test drive the car, however to try and give a constructive response and to also learn from where we went wrong, so it does not happen again in the future as you clearly felt frustrated enough to leave such a terrible review. You did book a Test drive slot online via our website, this is booked in hourly segments. As per your grievance I shall learn from this and replace the booking system to 30 minute intervals so it does not cause any confusion for future appointments. Our test drive route we send people on is not 5 minutes, its between 10 - 15 mins, also we have local little village roads that can also be driven down if a customer requires. You explained that you would be taking the car to Dual Carriageways / Motorways / A roads / B roads etc to get a feel of how the car responded in all conditions. The reason this was rejected as that would take at least 1 hour as they are all quite far, We would then have additional staff costs as you would have needed to be accompanied, it is not just a simple case of additional fuel costs etc, also I did say we have other people coming in for this car that same day. You then said if you could not drive the car for 1 hour then you will not buy the car and leave. We are a small independent garage that simply cant have our cars going off for 1 hour test drives, as is the same with all other local garages. The accusation of us "Hiding something" as the car is no longer advertised is simply not the case, The car was sold to another customer that was happy with the test drive route and purchased the car straight away that same day. I had a good experience with this trader ,the car has been reliable and was priced fairly, I had to pay £25 because the green slip was invalid but that was is a minor irritation and inconvenience, on the whole I recommend.

I saw on the AA used cars webpage that Cambs cars ltd had a 2014 Vauxhall Astra GTC for sale and it had been well looked after inside and outside, I expressed interest in the car and received a call and all my questions were answered and with great detail and the whole experience of buyng a car from Camb Cars ltd was really smooth and very easy and i did not feel pushed into purchasing the Astra. i test drove it and it was superb and couldn't find any fault with this company and he even took my embarrassing vw scirocco as part ex and this meant a lot of stress was relieved from my shoulders as i should never have purchased the car in the first place, he also offered to get the Cambelt and water pump changed at a trade price for me as extra peace at mind that the car was not going to breakdown on me. If in the future i want to get a newer car i would most definitely be coming back here first...
